Do You Know Who You Are?
Identity is a big topic, how you view and identify yourself has a a huge effect on your life. Your identity affects your day to day life, how others see you, your relationships etc. Especially as Christians the way we identify ourselves is pivotal for our spiritual growth. For a lot of us who have grown in Christian household, we’ve always identified ourselves with God and Christianity and sometimes this gives us a watered down image of who we and most importantly who GOD is. For those who are aren't Christians, your identity can be based on numerous things, your past, future, job, relationships and this can be problematic because these things are based on your situation and your situations change all the time, thats life, so that means that your identity will fluctuate. One day you’ll feel great about yourself, the next you don’t feel so positive towards yourself. Regardless of if you’re a believer or not, you were created for a PURPOSE. The fact that you’re still living means you haven't fulfilled your purpose yet, God is still going to use you, whether you believe it or not.
So who are you?
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9. We are part of a royal PRIESTHOOD! God has taken us from a place of sin and distress into the light, we are his children, children of the King..can you take that in? Thatis your identity and that is what you have to keep on telling yourself into it sinks in that YOU ARE ROYALTY. When you realise that you are royalty, people’s negative comments towards you won’t effect how you see yourself because you know, you’re a child of the King and you a destined for greatness.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” Psalm 140:14. The word fearfully doesn't mean God was afraid when he made you, it refers to reverence which means a deep respect. Do you know how powerful that is? The God of the universe, the King of kings made you with deep respect..If that doesn’t change the way you see yourself I don’t know what will!
What I want you to take from this, is to take some time to think about how God sees you and how that has an effect on how you see yourself. Regardless of your situation you’re in, if you’re struggling, if you’re doubting God, you are royalty, he has destined you for greatness. I hope and pray you can take that with you in your week and meditate on how God sees you and hopefully that change the way you identify yourself.
